Contra Costa Superior Court runs direct calendaring — every family law case is randomly assigned to one of seven judicial officers at filing and stays there for life. Every figure below is extracted verbatim or computed from the Judicial Council of California's 2025 Court Statistics Report, pp.156–157. No estimates.
A judge handling 1,034 cases per year has roughly 2 hours and 20 minutes of calendar time per active case per year — before accounting for continuances, ex parte applications, emergency hearings, and orders to show cause. In DV cases, that window is often the only structured opportunity a survivor has to be heard.
